Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has approved fresh appointments at the Government House in Port Harcourt, naming new occupants for the offices of Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Chief of Staff.
In a Special Government Announcement released on Thursday and signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onwuka Nzeshi, Dr. Dagogo S.A. Wokoma was appointed as the new Secretary to the State Government, while Barrister Sunny Ewule emerged as the new Chief of Staff.
The statement confirmed that both appointments take immediate effect, with the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Executive Council Chamber of Government House, Port Harcourt.
Although the government did not disclose reasons behind the changes, the appointments effectively replace former SSG Benibo Anabraba and former Chief of Staff Edison Ehie.
Political observers believe the latest reshuffle may be connected to recent developments surrounding the prolonged political crisis in the state.

The crisis drew national attention following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu, who stepped in to halt impeachment moves against the governor by the Rivers State House of Assembly and facilitate reconciliation between Fubara and his estranged political ally, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Last week, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, announced during plenary that lawmakers had officially withdrawn impeachment proceedings earlier initiated against Governor Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, following the presidential intervention.
The appointments also come shortly after the governor dissolved his cabinet of eight commissioners and relieved all Special Advisers of their duties, signaling a broader restructuring within the state’s executive arm.
The new appointees are expected to assume responsibilities immediately after their inauguration later on Thursday at Government House, Port Harcourt.
