Alleged Wike Assassination Plot: Ex-Rivers SSG Seeks Police Date Shift

Former Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Tammy Danagogo, has responded to an invitation from the Nigeria Police Force over allegations linking him to an alleged plot to assassinate the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Danagogo, through his legal representatives, informed the police that he was out of town and therefore unable to appear for questioning on the scheduled date of Thursday, January 15, 2026.

The invitation was issued by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Force Intelligence Department, Abuja, following a leaked telephone conversation reportedly involving Danagogo and a Port Harcourt-based pastor, Tambari Joseph Gbeneol.

In the controversial audio recording, both men were allegedly heard discussing plans to assassinate the former Rivers State governor, including claims of bringing in hired assassins from Israel.

Police authorities said Danagogo was invited to clarify his role and clear his name in connection with the allegations.

However, in a formal letter written by his law firm, Danagogo, Oputa & Co. Associates, the former SSG appealed for a rescheduling of the interview.

The letter, dated Wednesday and signed by Sir I. O. Nwodoh, Esq., was addressed to the Commissioner of Police, IRT, Guzape District, Abuja.

According to the letter, Danagogo only became aware of the invitation after it was served on his lawyers at about 6:00 p.m. the previous day.

The firm stated that their client was outside the city and would be unavailable on the proposed date.

“We regret to inform you that our Chief, Dr. T. W. Danagogo, is currently out of town and may not be available for your slated Thursday, 15th January 2026 appointment,” the letter read.

The lawyers therefore requested that the interview be shifted to Monday, January 26, 2026, asking for the police’s “kind indulgence” to accommodate the new date.

As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force has not publicly responded to the request for rescheduling.

The allegations have continued to generate widespread political and public reactions, particularly in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory.
