The Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has distributed multimillion-naira relief materials to thousands of rainstorm victims in Ekiti Central Senatorial District, Ekiti State.
The distribution targeted residents whose homes were destroyed by a storm on February 11, 2026, which left hundreds homeless across Irepodun/Irepodun, Ado, Efon, and Ijero local government areas.
Speaking while distributing the materials at Ijero Ekiti and other affected locations on Thursday, February 26, Bamidele, represented by his Senior Legislative Assistant, Gbenga Banji, said the intervention aimed to alleviate the suffering of victims and provide temporary relief pending the reconstruction of their homes.
“I am aware of the trauma and harrowing experiences associated with disasters. This propelled me to quickly approach NEMA to offer a helping hand and mitigate the pains of such incidents on the victims,” Bamidele said, urging residents to adopt precautionary measures to reduce future risks, including proper building maintenance, tree planting, and flood channel management.

The NEMA Director-General, Zubaida Umar, praised the senator for his swift action, describing it as a demonstration of good representation and empathy.
She advised beneficiaries to use the relief materials to mitigate their immediate hardships while efforts continue to rebuild damaged structures.
Local traditional rulers, including the Ajero of Ijero Ekiti, Oba Joseph Adewole, commended Bamidele’s intervention, calling it timely and crucial in stabilising the affected communities.
“Senator Bamidele has taken a bold and appropriate step by approaching NEMA to provide the requisite help to the victims. This will abate the trauma some of the victims suffered since the event,” Adewole said.
