Tinubu Extends NSCDC Commandant-General’s Tenure For Another Five Years

Bola Tinubu has renewed the tenure of Ahmed Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for a fresh five-year term.

A statement released on Saturday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the reappointment took effect from Friday, February 27, 2026.

Audi was first appointed to the position in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari. His initial five-year term ended last Friday, coinciding with his participation in activities commemorating the 2026 World Civil Defence Day at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja.

“He will resume his duties on Monday with a renewed mandate,” the statement said.

President Tinubu also directed Audi to strengthen the NSCDC’s role in national security, emphasizing that the service should play a more significant role as the police focus on protecting citizens from bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists.

Audi began his career with the NSCDC in November 1996 as a volunteer and, after completing basic officer training in 1997, was deployed as a Divisional Officer in Obi Local Government Area, Nasarawa. He progressed through various state commands and was promoted to the rank of Commandant of the Corps in 2007 before being deployed to the office of the Commandant-General at the National Headquarters in Abuja.

Born on September 30, 1967, in Laminga Town, Nasarawa LGA, Nasarawa State, Audi has an extensive academic background. He earned a Teachers’ Grade II Certificate from Teachers’ College, Jengre, Plateau State, in 1987; a Nigeria Certificate in Education from the College of Education, Akwanga, in 1992; a bachelor’s degree in Physical and Health Education from Ahmadu Bello University in 1995; a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Calabar in 2001; a PhD in Public Administration from Nasarawa State University in 2014; and a Master’s in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice from Ahmadu Bello University in 2019.
