Hypo Bleach, produced by Multipro Enterprise Limited, has cautioned Nigerians against consuming bleach amid a viral online controversy involving content creator King Mitchy and influencer VeryDarkMan.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the 1st of March, 2026, the Manager, Mr Adebayo Adeyemo stressed that Hypo Bleach is strictly a cleaning product and should never be ingested.
“Hypo Bleach, Nigeria’s number one bleach brand, is formulated to remove stains, whiten your white fabric, deodorize and kill 99.9% of germs. It is not a drink.
“It is not something to consume for the sake of trends,” the statement said.
The company noted that videos and AI-generated images circulating online falsely portrayed Hypo as a beverage, describing such content as fabricated and dangerous.
“We want to be unambiguous: those images are fabricated, that framing is false, and anyone encouraging others to consume Hypo, even as a joke, even for views, is putting lives at risk,” it stated.
Hypo also urged influencers, bloggers, and content creators to act responsibly.
“To every influencer, blogger, and content creator: Your reach is real. So is your responsibility. A trend that ends in ill-health is not a trend worth starting,” the statement added.
Addressing young Nigerians, the company said: “You do not have to prove anything to anyone. Not online. Not offline. Not ever. If someone is pressuring you to try this, that is not a dare. That is harm.”
The firm further advised individuals struggling emotionally to seek support from trusted adults, counsellors, or healthcare professionals, highlighting the importance of mental health.
“Let’s keep social media fun, but safe,” the statement concluded, with the hashtag #HypoForASaferTomorrow.

The warning follows an online dispute between King Mitchy and VeryDarkMan, which escalated over school renovation projects and alleged inappropriate remarks.
The feud intensified during a TikTok livestream when Mitchy reportedly appeared to drink a substance claimed to be bleach, sparking panic and false reports of her death. Her management later clarified that she was alive.
The situation worsened when VeryDarkMan was seen in a separate video taking a substance from a Hypo sachet, interpreted by many as a response to the trend.
Since then, several online content creators have mimicked the act in videos, simulating suicide attempts using Hypo sachets, prompting strong reactions from parents, activists, and concerned Nigerians.
Many have condemned the trend as disturbing and dangerous, calling on authorities to sanction those promoting such content due to its potential influence on younger social media users.
