Ogun Boosts Women’s Power, Registers 1,629 Affinity Groups

The Ogun State Government has registered 1,629 Women Affinity Groups under the Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up, reinforcing its commitment to women’s economic empowerment and financial inclusion.

A statement issued on Friday by the project coordinator, Bolanle Fadairo, said review sessions held in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area and Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area helped strengthen and expand the programme’s reach.

Fadairo noted that 852 Women Affinity Groups have been formed in Ijebu-Ode, while 777 groups have been established in Ado-Odo/Ota, bringing the total to 1,629 groups.

She attributed the achievement to the dedication of Local Field Supervisors, Women Affinity Group Supporting Officers, and the growing acceptance of the World Bank-supported initiative among women.

“National statistics currently rank Ogun among the leading states in programme performance.

All hands must be on deck to maintain high standards,” Fadairo said, emphasizing that the review sessions were designed to assess progress, address gaps in record-keeping, and ensure strict adherence to operational guidelines.

The coordinator highlighted the use of technology, noting that real-time monitoring tools were being deployed to track enrolment and improve efficiency.

She also encouraged facilitators to promote a savings culture among members and ensure proper documentation, including passbook management, while maximising the use of the programme’s toll-free line for support and feedback.

Local Field Supervisors for Ijebu-Ode and Ado-Odo/Ota, Omoju Olugbenga and Kayode Kikisagbe, commended the state government and programme team for prioritizing women’s economic empowerment.

They pledged to intensify grassroots mobilisation and sustain quality implementation to ensure the programme’s continued success across the participating local government areas.
