A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has scheduled a meeting of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) for Wednesday, March 11, 2026, in Abuja as the internal leadership crisis within the opposition party persists.
The meeting is expected to bring together members of the board recognized by the faction to deliberate on developments affecting the party’s leadership structure and ongoing disputes over the control of its national organs.
The decision to convene the BoT follows a series of legal battles and disagreements that have divided the party’s leadership into rival blocs.
Central to the dispute are controversies surrounding the PDP’s national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025, which produced a new leadership structure that has since been challenged in court.

The Court of Appeal recently upheld earlier judicial decisions that questioned the legitimacy of the convention process after former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido, argued that he was unfairly excluded from contesting the position of national chairman.
In a notice circulated to members, the organizers of the meeting stated that only recognized members of the Board of Trustees would be allowed to attend, urging members to disregard invitations from any parallel group claiming to represent the board.
The BoT, regarded as the conscience of the party, is expected to review the implications of recent court rulings and explore possible steps toward resolving the lingering leadership disputes that have continued to polarise the party.
The PDP has faced persistent internal divisions in recent months, with competing factions organizing separate meetings and making conflicting claims over the party’s leadership.
Political analysts say the outcome of the planned BoT meeting could shape the next phase of negotiations aimed at stabilizing the party ahead of future political contests.
