A former two-term National Ex-Officio of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), David Vaughan, has called on the party’s founding leaders and the Board of Trustees (BoT) to urgently step in to resolve the leadership crisis he says poses a serious threat to the party’s future ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Vaughan, who also contested the PDP governorship ticket in Lagos State during the 2023 elections, made the appeal on Tuesday , the 3rd of February, 2026, iin Lagos, warning that the prolonged internal wrangling and factional battles could further erode the party’s strength and electoral prospects.
He cautioned that failure to urgently address the disputes could deepen divisions within the party and undermine its readiness for future contests.
“Political problems are better settled politically because politics may take a lifetime, but the life span of an event in political calculation can be very short.
“We don’t even have the time in PDP to ignore or do otherwise. The time we have now is for us to find a way around our current leadership problems.
The Board of Trustees has a strong hold, they should find a way to come together since they always have a mechanism of solving their internal problems.
“The Board of Trustees should rise above inducements and wade in and intervene with honesty. We cannot continue like this. The BoT should wake up from sleep,” Vaughan said.

He further observed that individuals who collaborated under the G-5 arrangement to work against the party during the 2023 elections are now locked in internal conflicts among themselves.
Vaughan argued that the PDP’s inability to resolve its internal disagreements through political means contributed significantly to its loss in the 2023 presidential race.
He added that ongoing divisions between factions aligned with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, have continued to fuel polarisation within the party’s ranks.
