DSS Arraigns Ex-AGF Malami, Son Over Illegal Firearms

Former Attorney‑General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami (SAN) and his son, Abdulaziz Malami, were arraigned by the Department of State Services (DSS) in a Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, over allegations of illegal possession of firearms and related offences.

The arraignment comes after security operatives reportedly discovered weapons and ammunition at Malami’s residence in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.

The DSS has taken custody of the former minister and his son, citing concerns that the firearms were held unlawfully and posed a potential risk to public safety.

This development follows Malami’s bail on January 7, 2026, in a separate 16‑count money‑laundering case, in which he, his wife, and his son pleaded not guilty.

While the earlier case focused on alleged financial misconduct, the firearms charges are entirely separate and stem from national security considerations.

Malami’s defence team has indicated plans to challenge the new charges, asserting that all legal procedures for firearm ownership were met and that due process must be respected.

The court is expected to set a date for the substantive hearing on the firearms allegations at its next session, marking a significant escalation in the scrutiny of the former minister and his family.
