Five Rivers Commissioners To Be Sworn In By Fubara

The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, will on Wednesday swear in five commissioners-designate who were recently screened and confirmed by the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Governor Fubara had submitted a list of nine commissioner nominees to the Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, for screening and confirmation as members of the State Executive Council.

During plenary on Monday, the Assembly declined to confirm four of the nominees, citing reasons such as poor performance during screening, inconsistencies in documentation, and petitions reportedly submitted by constituents against one of the nominees. Five nominees, however, were cleared to proceed.

Following the confirmation, Speaker Amaewhule said the House would transmit a letter to the governor authorising the swearing-in of the cleared nominees.

The five confirmed commissioners-designate are Mr Tonye Belgam, Prof. Temple Nwafor, Dr Peters Nwogor, Dr Lekue Kenneth, and Amachree Edward Hart. Each commissioner-designate is expected to be accompanied by one guest and seated by 12:30 p.m., the statement added.
