Fubara Mourns Mpigi, Describes Loss As Devastating

Siminalayi Fubara has expressed profound grief over the death of Barinada Mpigi, who represented Rivers South East Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

In a tribute, the governor described the late senator as a brother, a devoted public servant, and a respected political leader whose impact was widely felt across Rivers State.

Fubara said Mpigi’s passing came at a time when his wealth of experience and commitment to service were still greatly needed by both the state and the nation. He offered prayers for God to grant the departed lawmaker eternal rest.

In a condolence statement issued on Thursday, the 19th of February, 2026, by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, the governor extended sympathy to the senator’s family, the people of Rivers South East, and members of the Senate over the loss.

He urged them to find solace in the enduring legacy Mpigi leaves behind, noting that he lived a life defined by dedication, purpose, and meaningful contributions to public service.

Senator Mpigi died at the age of 64. Until his passing, he served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works.
