Zamfara State PDP chairman, Jamil Jibo Magayaki, has resigned from the party and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Magayaki made the announcement in a statement shared with journalists on Thursday, the 12th of March, 2026, his decision on recent political developments in the state.
His defection follows that of Governor Dauda Lawal, who on Monday left the PDP for the APC after consulting extensively with political stakeholders, party leaders, elders, and supporters across Zamfara.
Magayaki said in the statement: “I, Dr. Jamil Jibo Magayaki, the Zamfara State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, hereby announce my formal defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress.”
He added that the decision reflects the political realities in the state and the need to join a platform better equipped to address residents’ concerns.

“My decision to join the APC is based on the prevailing political situation in Zamfara State, which requires aligning with a party capable of tackling the challenges of security, development, and effective governance for the benefit of our people,” he said.
Magayaki’s move is the latest in a series of shifts in Zamfara as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governor Lawal, when announcing his defection earlier in March, pointed to internal PDP disagreements and the need for stronger collaboration to confront security and developmental challenges.
In recent months, several PDP members, including legislators and party supporters in Zamfara, have also defected to the APC.
