Omisore Withdraws Suit Over APC Governorship Aspirants Disqualification

The campaign team of former Iyiola Omisore has announced the withdrawal of a lawsuit that challenged the disqualification of several governorship aspirants by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The group made the disclosure in a statement issued in Osogbo on Thursday, the 12th of March, 2026.

The statement was signed by the campaign’s Director General, Ajibola Famurewa.

Famurewa explained that the legal action was discontinued after senior figures in the ruling party stepped in to resolve the matter.

The suit had earlier been filed at the Federal High Court Osogbo.

It followed the screening exercise in which seven of the eight governorship aspirants were disqualified by the party’s panel ahead of the APC governorship primary in Osun State.

According to the campaign organisation, “the legal action, marked FHC/OS/CS/261/2025 Senator Iyiola Omisore v. APC & ANR, was instituted to test the legality of the panel’s decision.”

Famurewa said “the suit questioned whether the party had the authority to impose conditions for qualification or disqualification of aspirants beyond those stipulated in the Electoral Act 2022 and the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria.”

The originating summons, dated December 9, 2025, had asked “the Federal High Court to determine if the APC could lawfully disqualify Omisore despite his alleged fulfilment of the constitutional requirements to contest in the governorship primary.”

Among the reliefs sought was “a declaration that the party could not validly exclude him from participating in the primary election having satisfied the provisions of Sections 177 and 182 of the Constitution.”

The suit also asked the court to nullify the alleged disqualification and compel the APC to recognise Omisore as an aspirant in the party’s governorship primary ahead of the state election.

The former deputy governor also requested an order restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission from acknowledging any APC primary organised to produce a candidate for the governorship election in Osun State.

Famurewa added that “the case became widely known after details from the court’s cause list for March 2 circulated on social media, where the matter appeared as the eleventh case scheduled for hearing before Justice Adefunmilola Demi-Ajayi.”

He explained that the suit was eventually withdrawn after discussions with leading figures in the party.

“Upon the intervention of the President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Chief Bisi Akande and other well-meaning leaders, Senator Omisore decided to honour the request to follow the party’s decision,” the statement read.

The campaign organisation urged members of the APC and the general public to ignore reports claiming the case was still ongoing.

It stressed the need for unity within the party as preparations continue for the governorship election slated for the 15th of August, in Osun State.
