The Nigerian Navy has uncovered and dismantled an illegal crude oil storage site in the Bonny area of Rivers State, recovering approximately 17,500 litres of suspected stolen crude oil, which was destroyed to prevent misuse.
The operation took place on Friday, March 13, 2026, as part of the Navy’s ongoing efforts to secure the nation’s maritime domain.
Personnel from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bonny discovered the hidden facility during routine patrols.

The site contained four dugout pits concealed under dense vegetation along the creek, where the stolen oil had been stockpiled.
Officials said the action reflects the Navy’s determination to combat crude oil theft and other maritime crimes in the Niger Delta, emphasizing continued patrols and inter-agency collaboration to safeguard critical national energy resources.
