The Federal Government has declared Thursday, the 19th of March and Friday, the 20th, of March, 2026, as public holidays in observance of Eid-el-Fitr.
The announcement was made in a statement by Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, on behalf of the Federal Government through the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on Tuesday, the 17th of March.
The Minister congratulated Muslims nationwide on completing Ramadan successfully and urged them to embrace the values of “love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice.”

He called on all Nigerians to use the holiday to pray for “peace, unity, and continued progress in the country.”
Tunji-Ojo also encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and to “extend kindness to the less privileged during the festivities.”
