Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has blamed the ongoing crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on what he described as a calculated move by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to weaken the party in favour of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election.
Makinde made the remark on Sunday, the 22nd of March, 2026, during a visit to Bauchi State, where he met with Governor Bala Mohammed.
He claimed that members of the PDP aligning with Wike’s camp are indirectly backing Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
Makinde said, “I was in a meeting with Wike and Mr President and he (Wike) promised to hold PDP for Mr President towards 2027.

“So anyone moving with Wike and his group, have agreed to support President Tinubu for the 2027 election.
“We are not begrudging them. You can support whoever you want to support, but go to them if you want to support them.
“They have the government behind them, they have the judiciary and INEC behind them but we have the people behind us.”
