Shock Move: FCT Council Boss Dumps PDP For APC Ahead 2027

The Chairman of Bwari Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory, John Gabaya, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party to join the All Progressives Congress.

The development was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja and signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ernest Agada.

According to the statement, the defection is part of efforts to strengthen development in the council through closer collaboration with the Federal Government, while also positioning for political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Gabaya, who was elected under the PDP in 2019, is set to complete his second term in June. He is currently aspiring to represent the AMAC/Bwari constituency in the House of Representatives in the 2027 elections.

Explaining his decision, the council chairman said it followed a period of deep reflection, consultations, and adherence to constitutional procedures within both political parties.

“I have wholeheartedly embraced the APC as a platform for advancing peace, unity, and development in the Bwari Area Council, Abuja.

“It is for better collaborations with the Federal Government, to ensure long-term council development, and this was followed by extensive consultations with stakeholders.”

Gabaya expressed gratitude to individuals who supported his emergence as chairman, acknowledging their dedication and sacrifices throughout his political journey.

He also maintained that his exit from the PDP should not be interpreted as hostility toward former allies, but rather as a step taken in the broader interest of the council’s growth and progress.

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, he prayed for a peaceful and credible process and voiced optimism that the council would “deliver overwhelming support for President Bola Tinubu.”
