A fresh wave of political realignment has hit the Rivers State House of Assembly as sixteen lawmakers loyal to Speaker Martin Amaewhule on Friday announced their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was made during plenary, where Amaewhule declared that the lawmakers were left with no choice but to abandon the PDP due to what he called a “clear and irreconcilable division” within the party’s ranks.
Their defection marks a significant shift in the ongoing political turbulence rocking Rivers State and adds a new layer to the already tense relationship between opposing blocs within the Assembly.

The move also comes at a time when internal disputes and power struggles continue to define the political landscape both within the state and across party lines.
More updates are expected as reactions continue to trail the mass defection.
