Senate Orders Probe Into Plateau Massacre, Akpabio To Lead Condolence Visit

The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, demanded urgent action following a deadly attack in Anguwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State, that claimed at least 28 lives.

Lawmakers directed the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to launch a full-scale investigation and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

The upper chamber also resolved to send a high-powered delegation, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, to console victims’ families and assess the security situation on the ground.

The action followed a motion by Diket Plang and Dachung Mwadkon, who highlighted escalating insecurity in Kanam and Jos North local government areas.

Plang described the killings as a shocking reversal for Plateau, once hailed as the “Home of Peace and Tourism,” calling for urgent measures to restore order.

The Senate urged security agencies to strengthen intelligence and rapid response to prevent further violence and reassure residents of their safety.
