A member of the United States Congress, Riley Moore, has expressed concern over rising violence against Christians in Nigeria, cautioning that continued attacks could negatively impact relations between both countries.
Moore’s reaction follows reports of a deadly assault on worshippers during Palm Sunday in Jos, Plateau State, where at least 10 people were reportedly killed in Anguwan Rukuba.
In a post shared on X on Monday, the US lawmaker condemned the incident, describing it as part of a disturbing trend of attacks allegedly targeting Christians during major religious events.
He noted that he had previously participated in a US fact-finding mission investigating claims of violence against Christians in Nigeria, adding that such incidents appear to be recurring, particularly during significant dates in the Christian calendar.

Moore called on the Nigerian government, led by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to take urgent and decisive steps to strengthen security ahead of upcoming religious observances, including Easter celebrations.
According to him, authorities must act swiftly to prevent further loss of lives, warning that failure to address the situation could have consequences for Nigeria’s diplomatic standing with the United States.
The lawmaker stressed the need for heightened protection of vulnerable communities, especially during periods of religious gatherings, while urging security agencies to proactively respond to emerging threats.
The reported attack in Jos adds to growing concerns over insecurity in parts of the country, with stakeholders continuing to call for improved measures to safeguard lives and property.
