Sokoto University Fires Staff Over Illegal NYSC Student Uploads

The Usmanu Danfodiyo University has terminated the employment of Malam Garba Ahmed over allegations of illegally facilitating the mobilisation of unqualified students for the National Youth Service Corps.

The decision was made during the university’s 176th Governing Council meeting on April 1, 2026, according to a special bulletin issued by the institution.

Ahmed, who worked in the Registry Department, was found guilty of uploading names of ineligible candidates for NYSC mobilisation without authorisation.

Confirming the dismissal, the university’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Ismaila Mohammed Yauri, said, “The Governing Council approved the dismissal of Malam Garba Ahmed after he was found guilty of illegally uploading unqualified students for NYSC mobilisation.”

Yauri added that the dismissal takes immediate effect and stressed, “The university maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards acts of serious or gross misconduct,” noting that due process was followed.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns in Nigeria’s higher education sector over irregularities in student records and NYSC mobilisation, with universities under pressure to uphold integrity and accountability.

Authorities warned that any staff involved in similar acts would face strict disciplinary measures.
