The Ondo State Police Command has foiled an alleged plot by suspected criminals to launch coordinated attacks on government infrastructure using Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Akure and other parts of the state.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, disclosed this on Thursday during a press briefing at the command headquarters, noting that operatives acted swiftly on intelligence reports to prevent the planned attacks.
Lawal said the suspects had allegedly infiltrated the state and mapped out target locations before security operatives intercepted them.
According to him, six suspects were arrested during the operation, while materials suspected to be components for the fabrication of IEDs were recovered.
The suspects were identified as Adekunle Prosper (56), Ojo Olumide (39), Tope Kolawole (40), Ahmed Salihu (40), Bolaji Adebowale (46), and Gbadebo Abidemi (43).

He said a search of the scene and subsequent raid on the suspects’ residence led to the recovery of several items, including 217 bottles, a bag of sugar, criminal charms, 17 mobile phones, N187,000 in cash, two HP laptops, slings, a knife, an external hard drive, identity documents, and two motorcycles.
Lawal explained that preliminary investigations suggest some of the recovered materials were intended for constructing explosive devices, while others were allegedly used to support coordinated criminal activities.
He added that early findings indicate the group was actively involved in assembling IEDs reportedly targeted at government infrastructure, with possible links to broader operations beyond Akure.
The police command assured residents that investigations are ongoing and that efforts are being intensified to dismantle any remaining networks linked to the suspects.
