Former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has urged the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to seize last Thursday’s Supreme Court judgment as an opportunity to reconcile internal divisions and refocus efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released on Saturday through his media office and signed by Yusuph Olaniyonu, Saraki appealed to the PDP leadership elected at the March 29, 2026 national convention to view the court’s decision as a “challenge” that should trigger immediate reconciliation and rebuilding within the party.
He maintained that the Supreme Court ruling, which nullified the Ibadan convention, effectively validated his long-held position that the party ought to have adopted an interim leadership structure to prevent prolonged legal battles and internal conflict.
According to him, “the national convention in Ibadan should never have been held, but that instead an interim arrangement should have been put in place,” stressing that his interventions were consistently aimed at preventing avoidable crises within the opposition party.
Saraki recalled that he had repeatedly communicated this stance to key party stakeholders, including during engagements with a committee of elders led by Ambassador Hassan Adamu, the Wakili of Adamawa.

Following the court’s pronouncement, he insisted that unity must now take precedence, stating: “There is now only one PDP, and we should all unite and work for the success of our party across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.”
He further noted that attention should shift away from blame and internal disputes, adding that “the focus should not be on who wins and who loses. Those who lost in court should see their return to rebuild the party as another victory.”
Saraki also said the legal resolution had clarified the party’s leadership structure, arguing that it confirmed the Abdulrahman Mohammed Takushara-led National Working Committee as the recognised leadership “both in law and by the regulatory authority, the Independent National Electoral Commission.”
He called on aggrieved members to return to the fold and contribute to stabilising the party, stressing that the PDP must reorganise itself into a credible political alternative ahead of 2027.
“Once again, I call on our colleagues who have been in court for several months to retrace their steps. We should all try to see the bigger picture,” he said, adding that the PDP remains a “viable platform” for the next general elections.
Saraki concluded by congratulating the National Working Committee, urging it to prioritise unity, discipline, respect for the rule of law, democratic principles, and a focused drive toward electoral success in 2027.
