Saraki Urges Kwara PDP Unity Ahead Of Crucial Convention

Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has called on members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State to stay united and focused as the party intensifies efforts to rebuild ahead of upcoming elections.

Saraki made the appeal on Saturday while hosting a pre-national convention dinner at his residence in Abuja.

The gathering was attended by Kwara delegates, aspirants, party executives and other stakeholders.

He described the forthcoming convention as a crucial stage that would shape the party’s ability to reposition itself as a credible alternative in the state.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by his Press Officer on Local Matters, Abdulganiyu Abdulqadir, Saraki emphasised that rebuilding the PDP would require shared sacrifices and sustained dedication from members.

“Alhamdulillah that we are at this point. This convention is very important to us not just as a party, but as a state seeking a credible platform for contest,” he said.

The former governor noted that the convention marks the final phase of efforts to reposition the party to challenge for political power in Kwara State.

He urged aspirants to conduct themselves responsibly during the primaries and cautioned against actions that could create divisions within the party.

“What is important is PDP winning and salvaging our state. This is not a do-or-die affair but a collective mission”, he stated.

Saraki further stressed that members, including himself, had already made sacrifices toward rebuilding the party, urging stakeholders to prioritise unity above personal interests.

He also called for immediate mobilisation at the grassroots level after the convention, encouraging engagement across wards, local governments, youth groups and party directorates.

“We should all be committed and stay together for the sake of our state,” he stated.

In addition, he extended an invitation to members of other political camps to join the PDP, assuring them of inclusiveness within the party.

“Our doors are open. Many are suffering in silence; we can accommodate as many as possible for the sake of the state,” he said.

Saraki also took a swipe at the current administration in Kwara, describing its performance as a “bad narrative” for the state, while expressing confidence that the PDP would return to power and drive development.

“PDP shall resecure the state and lead it to prosperity,” he declared, adding that “PDP is a family affair.”

The PDP in Kwara State has been working to regain political strength since losing control of the state in the 2019 general elections, which brought the ruling All Progressives Congress to power.

The party is currently aligned with the faction backed by its national leadership and is holding its convention in Abuja.
