Wike: Supreme Court Ruling Has Resolved PDP Leadership Crisis

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that the Supreme Court judgment delivered on Thursday has effectively settled the leadership dispute within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting the party remains intact despite earlier tensions.

Speaking with journalists at his Abuja residence on April 30, Wike said the apex court decision had brought finality to arguments over the party’s leadership structure.

“The PDP is one. The judgment has put to rest reactions of factions within the party,” he said.

The Supreme Court, in a narrow 3–2 split decision, nullified the PDP national convention held in Ibadan on November 15 and 16, 2025, where a leadership group aligned with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde emerged.

In its majority ruling, the court held that the convention breached subsisting court orders which had set conditions the party was required to meet before proceeding. It also criticised the PDP for disregarding those directives.

Wike also addressed developments within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), noting that its internal crisis remains unresolved despite judicial intervention.

“The Supreme Court referred the ADC back to the Federal High Court. The ADC is still a problem,” he said.

The minister further reflected on Nigeria’s broader political environment, making a distinction between political organisations and individuals involved in them.

“Not that I don’t like the party, I hate the individuals involved. I don’t like them. They are part of the people who have plunged Nigeria into problems,” Wike stated.

The Supreme Court ruling is expected to influence ongoing political alignments and leadership contests within opposition parties as preparations gradually build toward future elections.
