Pate Rules Out 2027 Bauchi Governorship Bid, Cites National Duty

The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, has ruled out contesting the 2027 Bauchi State governorship election, saying his focus remains on national service.

Pate made the position known in a video message released on Sunday, May 3, 2026, amid sustained calls from stakeholders and residents urging him to join the race.

While acknowledging the support, he said his current responsibilities require broader engagement beyond state politics.

“I am aware of the calls by our people across the nooks and crannies for me to join the race, but this is also a time that it appears my service is needed beyond Bauchi,” he said.

He noted that consultations with elders, youths, and political stakeholders informed his decision, stressing that national development demands contributions at multiple levels, not only elective office.

Pate assured Bauchi residents that he remains committed to their welfare, pledging continued work in healthcare delivery, youth empowerment, and support for vulnerable groups.

He also urged youths to resist political manipulation and avoid violence, drug abuse, and divisive politics.

The minister said he would continue to support credible candidates and remain engaged in the political process.

He further called for support for the administration of President Bola Tinubu and candidates of the All Progressives Congress, arguing that alignment between federal and state governments would strengthen development outcomes.

Pate reaffirmed his commitment to public service, saying he will continue contributing to national development in whatever capacity he serves.
