Bala Mohammed Meets Bauchi APC Reps Amid Defection Talks

Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi State, has held a meeting with members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the House of Representatives from the state, as political realignments gather pace.

The meeting took place on Wednesday, April 8, at the governor’s residence in Abuja, coming amid ongoing speculation about his possible exit from the Peoples Democratic Party.

Speaking after the closed-door session, Dabo Ismail, who represents Toro Federal Constituency, said the gathering was convened by the governor to consult key stakeholders ahead of a potential move to the ruling party.

“We are here on a special invitation to discuss the ongoing political realignment in Nigeria, particularly in Bauchi state, and to address key issues affecting the development of our state. We have reached some positive conclusions,” he said.

“By the grace of God, we will make our position known in the coming days. In the meantime, we will continue consultations and engage critical stakeholders. We will brief them on the outcome of this meeting.

“We also hope his excellency will give due consideration to the issues presented by the leadership of our party and other key stakeholders.”

The latest engagement follows a series of high-level political meetings involving the governor.

Recall that on April 1, he received Nentawe Yilwatda, national chairman of the APC, alongside Kano State governor, Abba Yusuf, at the Government House in Bauchi.

Earlier, while hosting members of the African Democratic Congress, Mohammed had indicated that he was weighing the option of joining the APC with his political base.

However, he also suggested that the ruling party might not be receptive to his entry, pointing instead to the ADC as a more suitable platform for him and his supporters.
