Nigerian Visa Applicants To Face Continuous Security Screening — U.S. Mission

The United States Mission in Nigeria has emphasised that visa applicants, including Nigerians, remain under continuous security monitoring even after their visas have been issued.

This was disclosed in a statement published on the mission’s official X handle on Monday, May 4, as part of efforts to clarify the United States’ immigration screening process.

According to the mission, visa vetting is not a one-time procedure but a layered and ongoing system used by US authorities to assess applicants for potential risks, including criminal history and security concerns.

The statement noted that the process applies universally to all applicants, regardless of their visa category or current location, and continues throughout the lifespan of the visa.

“All visa applicants, no matter the visa type and where they are located, are continuously vetted.

“Security vetting runs from the time of each application, through adjudication of the visa, and afterwards during the validity period of every issued visa, to ensure the individual remains eligible to travel to the United States,” the statement read.

The mission said the advisory is intended to remind travellers, particularly Nigerians, that maintaining compliance with US immigration rules is essential at every stage, not only during the application process but also after approval.
