INEC Opens Media Accreditation For June 20 Bye-Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced the opening of an online accreditation process for media organisations ahead of a series of important bye-elections scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.

In a statement posted on Friday via its X handle, the electoral body invited interested media outlets “to complete their accreditation promptly through its dedicated portal,” emphasising that “late applications will not be considered.”

According to the commission, the bye-elections will be conducted across several constituencies nationwide.

These include the Dawaki Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency in Kano State, the Zuru State Constituency in Kebbi State, as well as the Ondo South Senatorial District, Rivers South East Senatorial District, Nasarawa North Senatorial District, and Enugu North Senatorial District.

The commission explained that the “accreditation process as a critical step in ensuring transparent and effective media coverage of the elections,” which are expected to attract significant political attention in the affected areas.

It further stated that “Media organisations seeking access are required to register via the commission’s official accreditation portal,” while reiterating its strict adherence to deadlines and warning that failure to apply within the specified timeframe will lead to disqualification from covering the polls.
