Lagos Govt Shuts Eko Bridge Outbound Lane Indefinitely For Repair

The Lagos State Government has announced the emergency closure of the outbound carriageway of Eko Bridge leading to Lagos Island for safety investigations and repair works.

The closure, which will take effect from Tuesday, May 12, 2026, was disclosed on Sunday by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi.

According to the commissioner, the decision became necessary to allow urgent safety assessments and rehabilitation on the affected section of the bridge.

Motorists travelling through Apongbon and Ijora Olopa have been advised to use the Third Mainland Bridge as an alternative route to access their destinations.

Osiyemi, however, clarified that the inward Lagos Island carriageway of Eko Bridge would remain open to vehicular movement.

“Adequate traffic and security personnel will be deployed along alternative routes to guide motorists and ensure smooth traffic flow,” he assured.

The state government urged road users to cooperate with traffic officials and plan their journeys accordingly to minimise congestion during the repair period.
