Lagos-Bound Traffic Halted As Truck Overturns On Otedola Bridge

Traffic was brought to a standstill on the Otedola Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, after a heavy-duty truck carrying two 20-foot containers overturned.

The incident occurred around 7:00 a.m. on the Lagos-bound side near the Secretariat axis.

Reports indicate that the Mack truck experienced a mechanical or battery failure, and during efforts to manage the situation, it tipped over, causing both containers to block most of the roadway.

Authorities noted that the blockage affected nearly the entire carriageway, leaving only a small section open for emergency personnel and stranded motorists.

The disruption led to extended traffic jams stretching beyond the Kara Bridge and affecting surrounding routes.

Recovery teams deployed cranes and tow trucks to remove the containers and upright the truck.

No casualties have been reported, but officials urged commuters to expect delays and seek alternative routes where possible.

The Otedola Bridge section is a critical transit point on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and is frequently prone to traffic bottlenecks due to the heavy volume of commercial vehicles.
