The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion plan ahead of the Lagos Gran Fondo “Eko 170” Cycling Race scheduled for Sunday, January 11, from 5:00 am to 2:00 pm.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement released on Saturday in Lagos, saying the diversion was necessary to ensure the safety of participants and other road users during the event.
Osiyemi said the 170-kilometre cycling race, organised by the Dynastar Sport and Education Foundation, would feature two routes.
According to him, the 70km route will start at Eko Atlantic and pass through Ahmadu Bello Way, Coastal Road, Okun-Ajah Community Road, Ogombo Road, Abraham Adesanya Junction, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Sangotedo, before returning to Eko Atlantic as the finishing point.
He added that the 170km route will also commence at Eko Atlantic, proceed through Ahmadu Bello Way, Coastal Road, Okun-Ajah Community Road, Ogombo Road, Abraham Adesanya Junction, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Sangotedo, Epe T-Junction, Ita Marun Junction, Poka-Araga Road, Oke Osho Junction, Temu Road, and back to Epe T-Junction before terminating at Eko Atlantic.
The commissioner explained that all adjoining roads, junctions and intersections along the race routes would be regulated by officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and other security agencies to prevent unauthorised access.

He noted that the affected roads would remain partially open, urging motorists to exercise patience, cooperate with traffic officials and comply with all traffic directives throughout the duration of the event.
Osiyemi said the measures were aimed at ensuring smooth traffic flow and the safety of cyclists and other road users.
The Lagos Gran Fondo “Eko 170” is a mass participation cycling event designed to promote sports tourism, healthy living and sustainable mobility in Lagos State. The state government said the race will also showcase the city’s infrastructure, coastal scenery and vibrant culture.
