Lagos Resumes Ogudu–Ifako Bridge Repairs, Rolls Out New Traffic Plan

The Lagos State Government has announced that the second phase of repair works on the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge, inbound Lagos Island, will begin on Wednesday, September 3.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, assured that the reviewed traffic management plan would ease congestion and ensure timely completion of the project.

According to Osiyemi, motorists coming from the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and Lagos Toll Gate toward Oshodi and Victoria Island will generally experience free flow.

However, near the bridge repair zone, vehicles will be diverted into a single lane about 50 metres before the work area and regain full access after 50 metres.

For alternative routes, he advised motorists heading to Oshodi to use the Ojota Slip Road to link Ikorodu Road (inward Anthony, by Taxi Park). Similarly, those bound for Victoria Island may use the Ojota Slip Road through Ikorodu Road (inward Anthony, by Town Planning Way), then proceed to Gbagada and access the Third Mainland Bridge. They may also opt for Ikorodu Road toward Funsho Williams Avenue and connect through Eko Bridge.

From Ikeja and its environs, motorists are advised to use Maryland to link Ikorodu Road/Funsho Williams Avenue and access Eko Bridge. Alternatively, they can connect via Anthony Taxi Park to Oshodi and continue their journey.

Osiyemi emphasised that the revised plan was designed to improve coordination and reduce gridlock during the repair works. He appealed to drivers to cooperate with traffic officers, maintain lane discipline, and make use of designated routes.
