Lagos State Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has cautioned celebrities, influencers, and well-meaning residents against giving money to street miscreants, warning that such gestures worsen insecurity and environmental concerns in the state.
In a statement posted via his X handle on Tuesday, Wahab said while some may view the act of giving as kindness, it only reinforces a cycle of lawlessness and makes enforcement more difficult.
“Each time you hand them cash, you are not solving their problem; you are encouraging them to stay on the streets, emboldening them to multiply, and reinforcing a cycle of lawlessness,” he noted.

The commissioner stressed that indiscriminate patronage fuels the growth of miscreant activities, leading to greater security challenges and environmental hazards across Lagos.
Wahab called for collective responsibility in addressing the menace, urging residents to support government enforcement efforts rather than actions that inadvertently sustain disorder.
