Charly Boy Opens Up on Mental Health Struggles, Urges Nigerians to Speak Out

 

Veteran entertainer and activist, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy or Area Fada, has shared a candid reflection on his personal struggles with mental health, urging Nigerians to take the issue seriously and break the silence around depression.

In a heartfelt message posted on Tuesday, the activist revealed that he recently traveled to Europe to visit his brother, singer Dr. Alban, hoping to take a three-week break from the chaos and stress of Nigeria. However, he confessed that despite being away for only ten days, he felt restless and compelled to return home.

“Depression na real matter. I was lucky enough to take a break, step away and come back refreshed. But how many people get that kind privilege?” Charly Boy asked, stressing that many Nigerians do not have the opportunity to escape their daily struggles.

The social critic noted that countless people continue to suffer in silence, masking their pain with forced smiles while battling internal struggles. He emphasized that mental health is not a weakness or taboo but a reality that must be addressed openly.

“If Area Fada fit admit say sometimes e dey choke, you too no need to pretend. Speak up, breathe, find your way back,” he wrote, encouraging Nigerians to embrace conversations around mental wellness.

Charly Boy concluded his message with a note of hope, wishing Nigerians a happier month and urging them not to allow life’s challenges to break their spirit.
