2027: Wike-Backed PDP Faction Begins Screening Of Presidential, Gov Aspirants

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has commenced the screening of aspirants for the 2027 presidential and governorship elections.

The faction, led by Abdulraman Mohammed as head of its National Working Committee, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, May 14, by the National Director of Publicity, Chinwe Nnorom, on behalf of the National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed.

According to the statement, the screening of governorship aspirants is scheduled to hold at noon at the PDP National Secretariat Annex, Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja, while that of presidential aspirants will begin at 2 p.m. at the same venue.

The presidential screening committee is chaired by former Abia State governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, with Hassan Sokodobo serving as secretary.

Other members of the panel include Alhaji Abba Isawa, Senator George Sekibo, Sodipo Semiu, Mrs Chinelo Chidebelu, Nasiru Mohammed, Senator Zainab Kure and Lindsey Sora.

For the governorship screening, the committee is headed by former Kaduna State governor, Ahmed Makarfi, with George Ariolu as secretary.

Other members are Dr Ibrahim Umar, Professor Aisha Madawaki, Tajudeen Yusuf, Dr Abdulganiyu Oloyin, Babangida Modibbo, Alhaji Buba Biri, Olaniyi Ogungbuji, Mike Ahumibe, Gabriel Igboko, Pastor Tony Effiong and Mrs Precious Ojelabi.

Meanwhile, the Tanimu Turaki-led Interim National Working Committee of the PDP had earlier extended the deadline for the purchase of nomination and expression of interest forms for the 2027 elections.

In a separate notice jointly signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, and the National Organising Secretary, Theophilus Shan, the party said the sale of forms for all positions will now close on May 15.

It added that the deadline for submission of completed forms has been moved to May 18, while the screening of aspirants is scheduled for May 19.

The interim committee said the adjustment followed appeals from stakeholders and aspirants nationwide.

It further stated that aspirants for National and State Assembly positions will be screened in their respective states, while governorship and presidential aspirants will be screened in Abuja, noting that all other previously announced activities remain unchanged.
