The Abdulrahman Mohammed-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced former Cross River State governorship candidate, Senator Sandy Onor, as its consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The declaration was made on Tuesday, May 26, at the party’s presidential primary collation exercise held at Wadata Plaza, Abuja, by the Chairman of the PDP Presidential Primaries Collation Committee and former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom.
Members of the collation committee said the process followed consultations and voice votes conducted among party members across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Senator Onor reportedly emerged as the sole aspirant after indicating interest in the race earlier in the month and obtaining his expression of interest and nomination forms.
Ortom, while speaking during the exercise, said the committee had engaged extensively with party stakeholders nationwide before arriving at a consensus decision.

He subsequently presented Senator Sandy Onor as the party’s consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), including National Commissioners Abdullahi Zuru and Prof. Rhoda Habor Gumus, were present to monitor the proceedings at the party secretariat.
After the announcement, the PDP leadership formally presented a certificate of return and the party flag to Senator Onor, confirming his status as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 polls.
This development adds another dimension to the PDP crisis as First Daily earlier reported that the Turaki-led PDP faction cleared former president, Goodluck Jonathan as its sole presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.
First Daily also recalls that on Tuesday, May 26, a Federal High Court in Abuja, dismissed a legal challenge to Jonathan’s eligibility to contest the 2027 presidential election.
