Seplat Energy has named Tony Elumelu as Chairman-designate of its Board, with the leadership transition scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2027.
The company said Elumelu will succeed Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, who is expected to retire as Chairman on December 31, 2026, bringing his tenure at the helm of the board to a close.
The appointment is part of Seplat’s planned succession process aimed at ensuring continuity in governance and strategic direction as the company advances its long-term growth agenda in Nigeria’s energy sector.

Elumelu, one of Africa’s most prominent investors and corporate leaders, is expected to bring extensive experience in board leadership, institution building and value creation to the role when he assumes office in 2027.
He currently serves on the Seplat board as a non-executive director, following his entry after Heirs Holdings and Heirs Energies became a major shareholder in the company through a 20.07 per cent stake acquisition.
Udoma, a former Minister of Budget and National Planning, has chaired the board through a period marked by strategic expansion and key operational milestones, including asset integration and governance restructuring.
The transition will formally take effect at the start of 2027, when Elumelu assumes the chairmanship of the Board of Seplat Energy.
