Nigeria’s Super Eagles have maintained their 26th position in the latest FIFA world rankings released on Thursday following a mixed set of results during the recent international window.
The three-time African champions held on to their place in the global standings after recording two victories, a draw and a defeat in their most recent matches.
Under coach Eric Chelle, Nigeria enjoyed a positive outing at the Unity Cup in London, securing wins over Zimbabwe and Jamaica to boost confidence ahead of upcoming international assignments.
However, the Super Eagles were later held to a 2-2 draw by Poland before suffering a narrow 2-1 defeat to Portugal in an international friendly, results that were not enough to improve their ranking.
Despite remaining outside the world’s top 20, Nigeria continues to rank among Africa’s leading football nations as preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Meanwhile, world champions Argentina retained their position at the top of the FIFA rankings after another impressive run of results. Spain and France occupy second and third places respectively, while England and Portugal complete the top five.
Morocco remains Africa’s highest-ranked team, sitting seventh in the world following its continued rise on the international stage.
The latest rankings come as attention increasingly turns to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada. The tournament will feature 48 teams for the first time, making it the largest World Cup in history.
FIFA’s rankings are expected to play a key role in future tournament seedings as nations continue their preparations for football’s biggest event.
