Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has taken a decisive step ahead of Nigeria’s forthcoming international friendlies, leaving out key figures including Victor Osimhen and first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali from his latest squad.
The Nigeria Football Federation confirmed on Wednesday that a 23-man list has been drawn up for the encounters, blending experienced internationals with a number of emerging talents as the coach reshapes his team.
Midfield anchor Wilfred Ndidi returns to lead the side, joined by Alex Iwobi and Ademola Lookman, who is expected to spearhead the attack in Osimhen’s absence.
The omission of several established names signals a broader overhaul from the squad that featured at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, with Chelle keen on testing alternatives and refining his tactical setup.
Among those also left out are Amas Obasogie, Chidozie Awaziem, Ryan Alebiosu, Muhammed Usman, Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, Tochukwu Nnadi, Salim Fago Lawal and Cyriel Dessers.
Nigeria will face Iran on March 27 before taking on Jordan on March 31, with both matches now scheduled to hold in Antalya following a venue change due to security concerns in the Middle East.
In goal, Maduka Okoye makes a return and is set to challenge for the starting spot, alongside Adeleye Adebayo and Francis Uzoho.

Defensively, Chelle has retained Semi Ajayi while handing a first senior call-up to Scotland-based Emmanuel Fernandez, highlighting a push to widen options at the back.
The midfield core remains largely intact, with Frank Onyeka, Raphael Onyedika and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru providing balance alongside Ndidi and Iwobi.
Up front, attacking duties will be shared among Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon, Chidera Ejuke, Paul Onuachu and Akor Adams, with new invites extended to Philip Otele and Collins Yira Sor following impressive club form.
The upcoming fixtures are expected to offer Chelle a clearer view of his evolving squad as preparations continue for future competitive engagements.
