Ex-Army Spokesperson Rabe Abubakar Dies In Bandits’ Captivity

Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former spokesman of the Nigerian Army, has died while in the custody of bandits months after he was abducted alongside his wife.

The development was confirmed on Saturday, sparking fresh concerns over the worsening security situation in parts of northern Nigeria where kidnapping for ransom remains rampant.

Abubakar, who served as Director of Army Public Relations during his military career, was reportedly kidnapped by armed bandits while travelling with his wife. Efforts by security agencies and family members to secure their release had continued before news of his death emerged.

The former military officer’s death comes amid a series of security operations across the country. In neighbouring Zamfara State, security operatives recently rescued three hostages from kidnappers, while police in Katsina foiled a kidnap attempt and freed nine victims.
