Zamfara Vows Action After Officers’ Deaths

The Zamfara State Government has reaffirmed its determination to intensify the fight against banditry and other forms of criminality following the death of three police officers during a security operation in the state.

The officers were killed on Monday, June 15, 2026, when an improvised explosive device (IED), allegedly planted by suspected bandits, detonated along the Anka–Bagega road in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Speaking during funeral prayers held for the slain officers in Gusau, the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Nakwada, described the incident as a tragic loss and extended condolences to the families of the deceased and the Nigeria Police Force.

Nakwada, who represented the state government at the funeral ceremony, said the sacrifice made by the officers would further strengthen ongoing efforts to restore peace and security across Zamfara State.

“This tragic incident will not make us relent; it only emboldens us. We will intensify our efforts, and victory is assured, In-Sha-Allah,” he said.

He conveyed the condolences of the Zamfara State Government to the Inspector-General of Police, the Zamfara State Police Command, the bereaved families and members of the wider police community.

He further pledged continued collaboration between the state government and security agencies in tackling banditry, kidnapping and other security threats affecting communities across the state.

The government official prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased officers and asked for strength and comfort for their families as they cope with the loss.

The latest incident underscores the security challenges facing parts of Zamfara State, where security forces have continued to confront armed groups responsible for attacks on communities, abductions and other violent crimes.

Authorities have maintained that ongoing military and law enforcement operations will continue until criminal elements operating within the state are effectively neutralised and lasting peace is restored.
