Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West Operation Fansan Yamma (JTF NW OPFY), have rescued 22 kidnapped victims during separate operations in Sabon Birni and Isa Local Government Areas of Sokoto State.

The military said the operations were part of ongoing efforts to protect communities, disrupt terrorist activities and deny criminal elements freedom of action across the North-West region.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Media Information Officer, Operation Fansan Yamma, Lt. Aliyu Danja, the first incident occurred on June 18, 2026, following credible intelligence that terrorists had blocked the Sabon Birni–Shinkafi Road at Kura Mota Village.

The terrorists reportedly attacked two civilian vehicles and abducted several passengers, while one civilian was killed during the attack.

Following the report, troops immediately mobilised to the area and launched a coordinated pursuit operation supported by aerial surveillance.

The military said the pressure mounted by troops forced the terrorists to abandon their captives and flee into surrounding areas.

As a result, 17 kidnapped passengers were rescued and handed over to relevant authorities for necessary support and further action.

In a separate operation on the same day, troops responded to another terrorist attack at Chohi Village where armed criminals attempted to abduct farmers working on their farmlands.

Troops swiftly moved to the location and pursued the fleeing attackers along their escape route.

The operation led to the rescue of five kidnapped farmers, who were subsequently reunited with their families.

Following the rescues, troops conducted confidence-building patrols in nearby communities including Gidan Rana and Gidan Sale villages to reassure residents, strengthen security presence and prevent further attacks.

Operation Fansan Yamma described the operations as a demonstration of its commitment to protecting lives and property while creating a safer environment for residents to carry out their daily activities without fear.

The military urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies, noting that community cooperation remains vital in the fight against terrorism and criminality in the region.
