A Nigerian woman, Habibat Salawudeen Ihiovi-Jack, has completed a 144-hour Guinness World Record attempt for the longest marathon reading of the Holy Bible.
According to videos shared by friends, supporters and members of her church on Instagram, Habibat concluded the six-day reading challenge on Monday after reading the Scriptures continuously in accordance with Guinness World Records guidelines, which permit only limited breaks for essential needs.
Tagged “144 Hours in the Word,” the record attempt was conceived as a faith-driven initiative aimed at promoting deeper engagement with the Bible and inspiring Christians to cultivate a stronger commitment to the study of God’s Word.
The marathon officially began on June 22 at the Novotel in Port Harcourt and ended on June 29, with Habibat reading aloud from a lectern while digital timers monitored her progress throughout the challenge.
A member of Summit Bible Church, Port Harcourt, Habibat reportedly embarked on the journey after years of preparation, with the vision for the challenge dating back to June 2022.
Her Senior Pastor, Dr. Andy Osakwe, founder of Summit Bible Churches Worldwide, described the initiative as more than a quest for a world record.

According to him, the project was designed to exalt the Word of God and encourage believers across the world to embrace consistent Bible study.
Throughout the challenge, Habibat received overwhelming support from family members, friends, church members and other well-wishers, many of whom attended the event in person, while others followed the marathon online.
Videos circulating on social media captured supporters cheering her on as she persevered through the endurance challenge, transforming the event into both a spiritual exercise and a public demonstration of faith.
Habitat’s attempt comes after Nigerian Samson Ajao was officially recognised by Guinness World Records in 2024 for setting the record for the world’s longest marathon reading aloud.
The Ibadan-born reader achieved the feat after reading continuously for 215 hours, breaking the previous record of 124 hours set by Kyrgyzstan’s Rysbai Isakov in 2022.
Habibat’s 144-hour Bible reading marathon will now undergo the official verification process by Guinness World Records before a final decision is made on its recognition.
