2027: Malami, Amaechi Hold Closed-Door Strategy Meeting

Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, on Friday, July 3, 2026, held a private meeting with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, in Abuja, as opposition consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections gathered momentum.

The closed-door meeting took place at Malami’s residence, with neither side disclosing details of the discussions as of press time.

Amaechi’s visit came less than 24 hours after he met with former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, in Abuja as the ADC continued consultations following the unveiling of its presidential ticket.

After Thursday’s meeting, Tambuwal congratulated Amaechi on his emergence as the party’s vice-presidential candidate, describing him as a seasoned public servant whose experience would strengthen the party’s quest to provide an alternative for Nigerians.

He said their talks centred on building a broad, united political platform capable of strengthening democracy and delivering purposeful leadership.

Tambuwal also welcomed the Federal High Court judgment of Thursday, July 2, 2026, affirming the legitimacy of the Senator David Mark-led leadership of the ADC, saying the ruling had cleared the way for the party to focus on internal cohesion and preparations for the 2027 elections.

Amaechi was recently unveiled as the running mate to the ADC’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, while the party has submitted both candidates’ names to the Independent National Electoral Commission ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The meeting with Malami marks the latest in a series of strategic consultations involving senior opposition figures as the ADC intensifies preparations for the next general election.
