Ex-AGF Malami Emerges ADC Consensus Gov’ship Candidate For Kebbi

Former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has been affirmed as the African Democratic Congress governorship candidate for Kebbi State ahead of the 2027 general elections after emerging as the party’s consensus aspirant.

Malami confirmed his emergence in a statement issued on Sunday, May 24, through his Special Assistant on Media, Mohammed Bello Doka, where he also announced the party’s senatorial candidates for the state.

The former minister, who recently left the All Progressives Congress for the African Democratic Congress, expressed appreciation to party leaders and supporters for their backing.

“I sincerely appreciate the confidence and support shown by leaders, stakeholders, and supporters of the African Democratic Congress in Kebbi State ahead of the 2027 general elections,” Malami said.

He added that internal consultations within the party led to agreement on candidates for key positions across the state.

According to the statement, “ADC Governorship Candidate for Kebbi State — Dr Abubakar Malami SAN,” while retired Major General Aminu Bande was named senatorial candidate for Kebbi Central.

Also listed were retired Deputy Comptroller General Ibrahim Muhammad Mera for Kebbi North and Garba Danjuma Limi for Kebbi South.

Malami said the party remained committed to “purposeful leadership, good governance, justice, security, and sustainable development for Kebbi State and Nigeria as a whole.”

He further stated that “together, with unity and determination, we shall build a more prosperous future for generations to come.”

Malami emerged unopposed in the ADC governorship process as the party’s consensus candidate and is expected to face Governor Nasir Idris of the APC in the 2027 election.

His emergence comes amid rising political tension in Kebbi, with both camps trading accusations over insecurity, governance and corruption ahead of the polls.

Since joining the ADC governorship race, Malami has criticised the state government over insecurity and economic hardship, while the Idris administration has accused him of misgovernance and political opportunism during his tenure as Attorney-General under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
