Rescued Oyo Principal’s Husband Calls For United Fight Against Kidnapping

The husband of one of the teachers rescued after the recent abduction in Oyo State, Professor Wole Alamu, has called on Nigerians to put aside ethnic, religious and political differences and work together to confront kidnapping and other forms of violent crime across the country.

Professor Alamu made the appeal in a statement issued on Sunday on behalf of his family following the rescue of his wife, Mrs Rachel Alamu, principal of the affected school, and 45 other victims.

Mrs Alamu was among the 39 students and seven teachers abducted by gunmen in Oyo State. She and the other captives regained their freedom on Friday during a rescue operation carried out by a joint team of security agencies.

Expressing gratitude for their safe return, the family said the overwhelming support they received during the ordeal had renewed their faith in the compassion and unity of Nigerians.

The family also thanked President Bola Tinubu, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, security agencies and everyone who contributed to the successful rescue operation.

It further acknowledged the support of traditional rulers, religious leaders, faith-based organisations, media practitioners and other well-wishers who stood by them throughout the difficult period.

“The family of Professor Wole Alamu has expressed deep appreciation to the Almighty God and to all Nigerians (home and abroad), for their prayers, support (morally and financially), and shared efforts, leading to the safe rescue of their loved ones from bandits’ captivity.

“The family urges Nigerians irrespective of religious or ethnic affiliations to remain united in tackling the various ills plaguing the country.

Expressed sympathy to those whose loved ones passed away and affirming that the love and concern demonstrated during the travail is a testimony of strength and capability.

“Let us aspire to remake Nigeria where every citizen is safe and is unhindered in pursuing their dream bereft of fear and chaos.

We commit the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Oyo State, Ogbomosoland, and our security operatives to the hand of God, may God grant us the kind of country our hearts thirst for – peaceful and conducive for national and individuals’ prosperity.”
