Police Kill Two Ogun Prince Kidnappers, Recover AK-47, Phones

Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Ogun State Police Command have neutralised two suspected kidnappers linked to the abduction of the Prince of Okun Owa, Idris.

The operation also led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, an empty magazine, two mobile phones, a suspected ransom bag, and other exhibits.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, Olusayo Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

The PPRO said the command had recorded another breakthrough in its fight against kidnapping after sustained pressure on the gang led to the prince’s safe release, followed by an operation that neutralised two of the kidnappers.

The prince was abducted on June 30, 2026, at about 7.30pm, when the kidnappers invaded his residence at Okun Owa and whisked him away.

The statement read, “Upon receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police immediately directed the activation of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, supported by other tactical teams, to secure the victim’s release and apprehend those responsible.”

It said the sustained operations and coordinated tactical pressure on the kidnappers paid off, as the prince regained his freedom unharmed on July 3, 2026.

Following his release, operatives intensified efforts to track down the kidnappers. Acting on credible intelligence, they stormed the Agoro/Imodi axis, where the suspects opened fire on sighting the police.

“The operatives responded decisively, leading to the neutralisation of two kidnappers, while other members of the gang escaped with gunshot wounds,” the statement read.

A search on the neutralised suspects led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine, two mobile phones, a bag suspected to be a ransom bag, and other exhibits linked to the operation.

Their corpses have been deposited at a government morgue for autopsy, while efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and recover more exhibits, the statement added.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, commended the courage and professionalism of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams involved and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks operating within the state.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting the police with timely and credible information, assuring them that the command “will sustain intelligence-led policing and robust tactical operations to ensure the safety of lives and property across Ogun State.”
