The Nigerian Army, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilante groups, has rescued three kidnapped victims and neutralised two suspected terrorists during a joint operation in Esan Local Government Area of Edo State.
The operation was launched following reports of the abduction of victims at Ambrose Alli University on July 13, 2026.
According to a statement by the Nigerian Army on Tuesday, troops acted on credible intelligence and, working closely with police operatives and local vigilantes, tracked the suspected kidnappers to their hideout in Esan Local Government Area.
The joint security team engaged the suspects in a fierce gun battle, during which two of the alleged terrorists were killed.
The military said the remaining members of the gang fled the area under sustained pressure from the advancing troops, abandoning the three kidnapped victims, who were rescued unharmed.
Security operatives also recovered three AK-47 rifles, 39 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, three mobile phones and two power banks during the operation.

It reaffirmed its commitment to working with the Nigeria Police Force, local vigilante groups and other stakeholders to eliminate criminal elements and improve security across the country.
The Army also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies by providing credible and timely information on the activities and hideouts of criminal groups and their collaborators.
