Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 65 Battalion have intercepted a truck transporting a large quantity of suspected illicit drugs along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, leading to the arrest of the vehicle’s driver.
The operation, carried out on July 9, 2026, was based on credible intelligence received by the troops, enabling them to stop the truck and recover the illegal consignment.
The development was disclosed in a statement on Sunday by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 81 Division, Lt. Col. Musa Yahaya.
According to the statement, preliminary investigations indicated that the drugs were being transported to the Berger area of Lagos State.
The Army said the arrested driver failed to provide satisfactory information regarding the ownership of the drugs or identify the intended recipient of the consignment.
Following the interception, the suspect and the recovered drugs were handed over to the Lagos State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and possible prosecution, in line with standard operational procedures.

The handover was conducted by the Commanding Officer of the 65 Battalion, Lt. Col. S. Adeojo.
Reacting to the successful operation, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Maj. Gen. Adebayo Babalola, commended the troops for their alertness, professionalism and commitment to duty.
He urged personnel to sustain the ongoing crackdown on criminal activities and intensify efforts to prevent drug traffickers and other criminal elements from operating within the division’s area of responsibility.
The Army noted that the operation reflects its continued collaboration with other security agencies in the fight against drug trafficking and related crimes across the country.
